Taken from Salon.com Vice President Dick Cheney appeared -- from Oman -- on "Good Morning America" Wednesday. During Cheney's appearance, ABC News correspondent Martha Raddatz mentioned public opinion polls on the war in Iraq . Here's the conversation that ensued, including Raddatz's original comment. Video of the exchange follows. RADDATZ: Two-thirds of Americans say it's not worth fighting. CHENEY: So. RADDATZ: So? You don't care what the American people think? CHENEY: No. I think you cannot be blown off course by the fluctuations in the public opinion polls. There has in fact been fundamental change and transformation and improvement for the better. That's a huge accomplishment.

I've always been perplexed about that thing that americans call "dating". Here's an interesting discussion about the issue. And this is my favorite comment of the thread: Actually, from my perspective "dating" is sort of a concept that exists and can be discussed by never actually happens. People start hanging out, then they start "going out" as booksandlibretti described (perfectly, I might add) and then there's boyfriend girlfriend. If someone says they're "dating someone" that's the same as "going out" with someone or are their boyfriend/girlfriend. If someone says they're "dating" as opposed to "dating so-and-so" that means hanging out with a lot of guys and (maybe) going on dates with them. Men are never "dating" really. Este asunto del tiempo es algo que me deja perplejo. ¿Qué es el tiempo? ¿Existe realmente o es solo una imaginación nuestra, una ilusión? ¿Qué es el ser? ¿Qué es el yo? ¿Qué es el libre albedrío? Anoche estuve viendo en el cable (canal A&E) la película Pleasantville , a la que interpreto como una metáfora anti-sistema, con un mensaje bien pensado a la vez que accesible para el público en general. La recomiendo.

Tengo un nivel de inglés que me permite leer y escribir en ese idioma (ver mi blog Reason Prostituted ). Hay quienes me preguntan que cómo es que aprendí inglés. No aprendí inglés por medio de una institución educativa. Tampoco he vivido en Estados Unidos. Lo que me ha servido de base fueron un par de "cursos" de inglés bastante básicos. Uno consistente en un librito y un par de audiocassettes, y el otro un antiguo y amarillento libro. También tres clases de inglés que llevé en la universidad. He estado aprendiendo inglés desde principios de los 90's, en forma lenta pero persistente. En este proceso me ha servido ver películas y programas de televisión en inglés (con subtítulos), y aprender letras de canciones en inglés (también sermones religiosos). Pero lo que ha impulsado más mi aprendizaje del inglés ha sido mi interés por la lectura. El primer libro que leí en inglés fue Jelly Belly , que trata sobre los esfuerzos de un niño gordo para adelgazar. Bast
